Mini Challenges:
- Book a health-related appointment you have been putting off. A little outside of our norm, isn’t it? I want you to take this seriously, though, as keeping up with your appointments is a way of caring for your body and your health on a deeper level, and will help you strengthen your commitment to your diet and exercise routine as well. So, whether you’ve been delaying your teeth cleaning, a physical, or could just use a deep-tissue massage it’s time to make the call! Be sure to have this done by October 31st. You could even go a little bit outside of your comfort zone, and book a different kind of appointment you’ve been wanting to try, such as with a Naturopathic Doctor, an acupuncturist, chiropractor, personal trainer, or sleep doctor.
- Avoid processed foods as much as possible. This means that for the next 10 days, you are going to make every effort to eat foods that are as close to their natural form as possible. Of course, there are times when we simply have to eat foods that have been processed to some extent (whether at home or on the road), which is why I haven’t said to cut processed food out 100%, just as much as you can! This will mean doing a bit more meal prep and cooking yourself, especially if you are having to cook in the truck, but it will be worth it! Even if you are having to rely on restaurants some of the time, look for vegetables, potatoes, whole fruit, and real meat (vs deli meat).
- Don’t eat any Halloween candy until October 31st. This means you won’t be dipping into the box you already bought, “just in case the stores sell out!” Keep it locked away in a closet, and forget about it until the trick or treaters arrive. Once they’re gone, choose 1-2 of your favourites to enjoy, and then get rid of the rest!
- Walk an extra 1 kilometre per day. Whether you walk 3km or 20km per day, an extra 1km (about 1200-1500 steps) is a great way to stretch yourself just a bit. Get creative with it; take a new route on your evening walk, check out a nearby hiking trail (Google will help you find one wherever you are, but this website is a great resource for Ontario, Canada), or head out for a walk one your lunch break!
